Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. In her early years she attended the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma was just six when she decided she wanted to pursue a career as an actress. She was trained for many years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part time theatre school in Oxford where she was taught acting as well as singing. Her performances had been in a variety of Stagecoach and school productions before she was 10 years old. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the 2001 film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Agents for casting found Emma via her Oxford theatre teacher. After eight consistent auditions director David Heyman told Emma and co-applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been selected for the roles of the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's first film on the screen came in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone that was released in the year 2001. The film set records in terms of its opening and weekend ticket sales, and it was the top-grossing 2001 film. The film has been praised by critics for its film and the performance of the three principal young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a widely read British paper, praised her for her exceptional performance. Later Emma was nominated for five awards for her role in the film winning an award called the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in the feature Film.
